Oooh! Oooh! Pick me! Pick me! I know what it is! It's Rudolph's antler, cut savagely from his pretty little head and stuck into the ground outside your house, and left to succumb to the first winter frost of the season! I'm right, aren't I? :-)

Umm...actually...It looks kinda like a twig you picked up in the English equivalent of "The Bush", and stuck in a hole...again letting it succumb to Winter's tantrums :-)

Can't imagine a Cold Christmas. That's just so wrong on so many levels! (says she from sunny and hot Australia)

I like the way you're thinking but sadly, no. As far as I know Rudolph still has a full set and the 'twig' still has it's roots in a pot, just out of view.

Here's a hint: it has a cousin that produces something most wonderful LOL.

Correct answer will be announced Friday, if I remember LOL.

Oh dear, I have a feeling this is where my being born in Australia will be my downfall. I'm assuming it is something that has christmas references for cold-climate countries, thereby being something not found in a place where christmas day either finds you at the beach, swimming, or in the back yard cooking over the Barbie (NOT the plastic doll!) or playing backyard cricket.

Given my knowledge of cold-climate christmases comes from movies and christmas cards, plus the odd story here and there, all I can think of off the top of my head are Yule Logs and Mistletoe.

Even now it's niggling at me - there's a memory I can't quite grab at (elusive little terror that it is)...something possibly to do with eggnog and warmed brandy or rum.

Nah - stuck now. Guess I will have to wait until Friday, just like everyone else.

:-)

Okay, had another think about this, and if it IS to do with Christmas, then the only other two things I can think of are Holly and fir Trees.

It's still niggling there at the back of my mind though - I've seen something similar - or at least an Aussie version of something similar - at some stage in my life.

Oh hurry up and get back to us! I wanna know now! :-)
