Cold Is Here

Here's some views of part of my drive to work today. Doesn't it look lovely? I can tell you the travel chaos a mere dusting of snow brings is no fun. Spare a thought for other parts of the UK, who have had it far worse.

Winter Is Coming

Any shameless excuse to use a GoT reference..?

Well actually no: after a relatively mild week or so, when it looked like Spring might have been around the corner, the forecast this week is for snow in this area and temperatures falling once again well below -5 degrees Celsius. That's most definately brrr in Fahrenheit LOL.

Think I'll keep the heating at home running 24x7 if you don't mind.

Numbers Game

Feeling like a very proud ll today. He's only in year 9 but the preparation for the GCSE's mean that ll is being bombared with exams. I firmly believe you don't fatten a pig by keep weighing it but anyway that's how education works apparently.

Most recently he sat a GCSE level Maths (or Math if you are Atlanically challenged LOL) test and finished top of his class. Added to this the teacher had requested each pupil keep a log of the amount of revision time they put in. I'm sure most of them over estimated the amount for whatever reason but nevertheless the child who put in the most revision was the same one that gained top marks in the exam.

What do you know? Hard work pays off and makes for a very pleased dad!

Kentucky

Some will be aware that the UK franchaise of fast food chain KFC has been having difficulties recently.

Yesterday having run out of chicken supplies, nearly 600 branches out of 900 across the UK and Ireland had to close. The problem has continued today, Tuesday, with more restaurants running out of stock. The company has blamed their new logistics supplier, DHL. To be honest I'm not that surprised, based on my own experiences.

With this in mind here's my lighthearted opinion on what KFC can expect from their chosen supplier in the future:

a) chicken not arriving on the specified day
b) chicken being left with a neighbour
c) chicken being dropped over the back fence
d) chicken arriving damaged

Kick Inside

40 years ago today, doesn't seem true.

People

Loving this new 50p coin issued by the Royal Mint, marking the 100th anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918. For the first time all men and (some) women were allowed to vote. We've come quite a long way since then.

Quarter

The restoration project of the ruins of Reading Abbey is progressing. The Abbey Quarter, as it is to be known, is scheduled to open this summer. Below are two images of the works, courtesy of Callum Cromwell.

Bitter

Woke this morning about an hour before the alarm was due, feeling extremely chilly. Not surprised when I realised the outside temperature was well below zero...
