Yum!

What better way to spend Good Friday than enjoying a lovely meal, with ym?

Individual steak and ale pies, roasted potatoes, carrots, parsnips and drunken goodness (a dish based on mashed sweet potatoes). Not forgetting of course Bungerberg ginger beer. Yum!

Found another LOL...

... And very good it is too.

Stubby

You know it's not often you can find Aussie-style "stubby" bottles on sale here in the UK. Must have been imported for all those ex-pat antipodeans, in time for their national day.

Cheers!

Honour

Today I got to be an "Aussie for the day" in honour of Australia Day and my guest from Down Under.

So like a good Aussie I listened to a CD of Australian music (great), consumed home-made ANZAC biscuits (yummy) and drank Bundaberg Ginger Beer (need I say more?). The only downside being that at a maximum temperature of around 6.5 degrees Celsius, the weather wasn't exactly typically Australian.

Someone even thought it a good idea to fly the Aussie flag from the roof of my car all the way down to Southampton and Portsmouth today...

Strewth!

More Ginger

As previously reported here and here, I have something of a liking for ginger. Almost but not quite an obsession you might say.

So tonight I'm drinking Twinings Lemon and Ginger Tea, in the hope it will help the Summer cold I seem to have acquired. In truth I drink it a lot but maybe I feel I need an excuse LOL...

Best served without milk, because that would be so wrong LOL.

Few Thoughts

In no particular order:
  • Have successfully tracked down Fentiman's Traditional Ginger Beer. It's "Botanically brewed" dontchaknow. Will enjoy drinking, I'm sure. Just have to remember to gently shake first. The bottle that is LOL.
  • Reading FC thrashed Peterborough United 6 - 0 today. The Royals move to 9th in the Championship. Very little chance of a play-off place sadly.
  • The General Election will be upon us 6th May. Whoever wins I just hope they put an end to the horrible habit of briefing the press and pre-announcing everything. You know: "The Prime Minister will later today announce that..." I mean you either announce something now or you say it later. You can't do both, with me?
  • The new style Daleks are rubbish. I mean they suck, big time. With a few minor tweaks, the classic design of Doctor Who's greatest foe has remained unchanged since 1963. Why a major and appalling overhaul now?
  • While I feel for all those stranded air passengers, as someone who lives under the flight path of the busiest airport in the world, it's lovely and quiet without any planes flying for two days now. For those from "out of town," Britain and most of Europe is closed to air traffic thanks to an Icelandic volcano.
  • LL has done very well this week in his swimming class. Am very proud.
  • You can tell spring is here and summer not that far away: the air is full of the smell of BBQ lighter fuel LOL.

Oi! Ginger!

Long standing readers to Mostly Harmless will know I absolutely adore all things ginger. Especially Ginger Beer. So you can imagine my delight when I discovered this in my local Waitrose supermarket. It's come all the way from our colonial cousins living in the Land Down Under. Can't wait to try a bottle later tonight. Strewth!

And while on the subject of ginger-ness, my very own 'copper-top' in the form of LL (he gets it from his maternal Granddad) has been doing rather well lately. I have him every Saturday and in the mornings he goes to Gym club for an hour or so, where sadly (LOL) I can only join the other parents and watch from the balcony. He really enjoys it and while he's keen, he'll get all the encouragement I can give. They assess the kids about once a term to national gymnastic standards and I'm pleased to say that with some effort he's been able to progress, winning himself this lovely certificate.

And this afternoon we popped along to the Wycombe Swan theatre where they were having an open day, including guided tours from back stage all the way up into the lighting gallery. Excellent fun and was totally free. Now that's not bad is it?

Since I'm on a bit of a blogging-roll... I found this recently, all the way from the New England area of the US. I used to have one on the back of my previous car, which didn't make a great deal of sense in the UK but you should have seen the faces of puzzled on-lookers! Maybe I should consider it again..?

While I think of it, we don't change our clocks in the UK until 28 March. I checked here on the government website, since there'd been a total lack of coverage this past week. Sorry for any panic/confusion caused LOL. Spring is still due to start tomorrow though.
