Can't Stand The Heat?

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay sure seems to have cooked up a storm while on tour down under. Even their Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has waded in to the debate over his rather rude comments regarding a TV presenter. All of Australia is insulted, so we are told and that Britain should be ashamed.

Now I'm not convinced all is as it appears: the presenter- Tracy Grimshaw- has seemingly made much of the situation, to her advantage (all publicity is good publicity perhaps?) and the Good Food and Wine Show, where Ramsay is appearing, has also seen increased interest. No doubt any book or TV show he is currently pushing will also get additional coverage. Certainly for the past couple of days that would appear to be the case.

Isn't this all a bit rich anyway? Everyone knows Ramsay speaks his mind and has no objection to ruffling feathers, not to mention letting rip with a few dozen choice words. So when he acts to type, should we really be surprised? And on top of that, it's widely suspected that Australia's favourite sport after Cricket, Rugby and (that strange thing they call) Football, is Pommie (British) Bashing. Now do the British complain over that LOL?* Never mind that many of us find the actual terms 'Pom' and 'Pommie' insulting, if we dare say anything we are told we're whinging...

Hmmm.....

as a resident member of that odd country DOWN UNDER....I wonder....

Should I comment or not?

Having missed the entire episode anyway (given I don't watch free-to-air Aussie tv as most of it is repeated Yank stuff anyway, and these days is primarily an hour of ads with a few minutes of tv shows interspersed in between)...I'm not totally sure that ALL of Australia is upset....

However...I will sit on the sidelines, and keep quiet on this one, I think.
