It seems quite apt that on the eve of Australia Day, it has been announced the grave of explorer Matthew Flinders has been discovered in London.
Lincolnshire born Captain Flinders was the first (Western) man to circumnavigate around Terra Australis, accompanied by a guide named Bungaree. Flinders died in 1814 at the age of just 40 and was buried in a grave, whose exact location was quickly lost, in St James' Gardens London. Workers excavating the site of the new HS2 terminal discovered his resting place and that of some 40000 others. All the remains will be catalogued and transported to a new permanent resting place.
Oh and to Aussies everywhere, happy Australia Day.
