Round Pound

The UK is this year saying farewell to the One Pound coin in it's current form. It has been suggested a high proportion of "round pounds" in circulation are likely counterfeit. As a result, a new complex 12 sided coin will be available from March next year.

In the meantime the Royal Mint has issued a rather beautiful limited edition coin, in the current format. The reverse shows the emblems of the four nations.

I've decided to form a fan club LOL.

Quarter

Now that Australia has (temporarily at least) followed countries such as the United States and introduced a 25c coin, I've been thinking whether the UK should have it's own Quarter. Obviously 25p for us LOL.

I mean the smaller denomination coins are rapidly becoming irrelevant thanks to inflation. What is the point of the (in relative terms) oversized 1p and 2p coins? Wouldn't a 25p coin be a far more useful thing to carry? I know we have a 20p coin but couldn't the Royal Mint be radical and do away with that as well, giving us instead 5p, 10p, 25p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins? Makes sense to me.

M4

My journey to the office is about 15 miles and normally takes around 30 minutes. Today I arrived at work a full three hours after leaving home. A lorry (English for truck) had overturned on the M4 motorway, blocking all three east bound lanes and straddling the central barrier thus closing the opposite direction as well for a time. I do hope no one was hurt but you can imagine my frustration.

Just glad I had a last minute wee before leaving the house this morning LOL.


UPDATE It's been reported that sadly the lorry driver died.

We have local elections today across the UK, for councils, mayors, police commissioners and in some cases Members of Parliament. The only trouble is in my area I haven't a clue who the candidates are!
