Hmm

It's looking like the second May public holiday weekend might be a bit wet and stormy. I knew it was too good to last LOL.

Audio Wells

Just to prove you can't have too much of a good thing: Recently I have been enjoying listening to differing versions of the same tale. H G Wells' classic and perhaps best known novel brought to life as an audio reading, musical and a dramatization. The most recent given a different name for licencing reasons (stand up Mr Wayne LOL). Quite an interesting exercise I must say. While you really can't go wrong with the 70's rock approach, the Richard Armitage staring version has been refreshingly original while remaining quite loyal to the spirit of Wells' work.

Grow

My Peony, that I inherited when I moved to this house, is doing quite nicely and getting ready to flower. Elsewhere my newly planted Agapanthus triangle is looking promising.

Aussie Silver

Back in 1966 the Royal Australian Mint issued their very first 50c coin. It was round and contained an extremely high (80%) silver content, which far outweighed the face value. This coin was only issued for one year and in 1968 the many-sided non-silver coin, still in use today, was launched.

Many of these round silver coins were either melted due to their intrinsic value or hoarded. As a result this coin rapidly disappeared from circulation, making it a reasonably unique piece. I am sure you can imagine my pleasure at receiving one in the post today!

A perfect drink for summer LOL..?

82.5

That's degrees Fahrenheit, or 28 degrees Celsius if you prefer. Either way it's not a bad top temperature for Spring in the UK don't you think..?

Too Fast

Looks like on a recent trip to visit Dad, I was caught driving too quickly by the Rozzers. Quite right too: 48 mph in a 40 zone earns you points on your licence plus a hefty fine and an increased insurance premium. Alternatively I might be able to avoid all the points and fine malarkey by paying a fee of about £100 to attend a half day Driver Awareness course. Again*.

* Well it was eight years ago.

St George

Should be a public holiday in England.

Hydrated

When they said stay hydrated at work, this wasn't quite what they meant LOL.

To be fair, it did only contain water.

Enjoy the unseasonally warm weather while it lasts. Yesterday a top temperature of 29 degrees Celcius was recorded in the UK. The April average is around 12 degrees.

Anniversary

The Royal Mint have been busy, releasing these lovely two pound coins to mark 100th anniversaries. It's been 100 years since the formation of the world's first airforce: the Royal Air Force. The other landmark coming later this year: the signing of the Armistice and the formal end of the Great War.

Splish Splash Splosh

I think we've had enough rain this Easter public holiday, thank you very much LOL.
