... And from Lane End, we've headed into High Wycombe, a town that used to be a hub of British furniture making dontchaknow. Except we're not here for tables and chairs, or indeed the renowned theatre, The Swan, but drinks may be involved at some point...

Jolly Boys Outing

It hardly seems true today marks six years since our trip to the capital to see one of the best musical comedies of modern times, and in its opening week too. The cast, including co-writer Paul Whitehouse, were absolutely brilliant. Cushty you might say.

The cast and crew are now about to embark on a nationwide tour and I have to admit to being tempted to bag some tickets.

Fun fact: the New Theatre in Oxford is 89 years old. Hardly new, is it? It was in fact given this name because it was the third theatre build on the same site since 1836.

We're not long back from a trip to the theatre with LL. Have seen Calamity Jane on stage a few times but even as an amateur production, this one was an extremely good adaption. I think we all three enjoyed the afternoon out.

No One Would Have Believed

I'm off to the cinema later today to see the film of the new version of the musical based on an album inspired by a book. To be more exact, Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds- The New Generation. Something of a mouthful!

Oi! Ginger!

Long standing readers to Mostly Harmless will know I absolutely adore all things ginger. Especially Ginger Beer. So you can imagine my delight when I discovered this in my local Waitrose supermarket. It's come all the way from our colonial cousins living in the Land Down Under. Can't wait to try a bottle later tonight. Strewth!



















And while on the subject of ginger-ness, my very own 'copper-top' in the form of LL (he gets it from his maternal Granddad) has been doing rather well lately. I have him every Saturday and in the mornings he goes to Gym club for an hour or so, where sadly (LOL) I can only join the other parents and watch from the balcony. He really enjoys it and while he's keen, he'll get all the encouragement I can give. They assess the kids about once a term to national gymnastic standards and I'm pleased to say that with some effort he's been able to progress, winning himself this lovely certificate.   

And this afternoon we popped along to the Wycombe Swan theatre where they were having an open day, including guided tours from back stage all the way up into the lighting gallery. Excellent fun and was totally free. Now that's not bad is it?

Since I'm on a bit of a blogging-roll... I found this recently, all the way from the New England area of the US. I used to have one on the back of my previous car, which didn't make a great deal of sense in the UK but you should have seen the faces of puzzled on-lookers! Maybe I should consider it again..?

While I think of it, we don't change our clocks in the UK until 28 March. I checked here on the government website, since there'd been a total lack of coverage this past week. Sorry for any panic/confusion caused LOL. Spring is still due to start tomorrow though.

Theatre

Took a trip out last night to see Oklahoma! at a local theatre. Had never been to a show at this theatre before despite it being practically on my doorstep. Quite remiss of me- it's a very good venue. Equally I can't believe I hadn't seen this Roger's and Hammerstein classic either despite my love of theatre. So two firsts in one night.

Admittedly this was an ameteur production by a local company of players although there was nothing ameteur about the production at all. Played out to a nearly packed out house, a good time was had by all.
